You Should Go

[Matthew 28:16-20] 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

[Abstract] Jesus commands that all believers to participate in the Great Commission: to make disciples of all nations. It is the duty of every believer to actively participate in the Great Commission. However, this does not dictate that every one must be a preacher. Rather, one should contribute to this goal according to his ability and talent. Moreover, we should not dilute Jesus’s command to make mere baby believers. But we should strive to make mature disciples, whom will perpetual the Great Commission.

This form of perpetuity is reminiscent of the structure of today’s verses as the latter reflects the main elements of a Christian church: worship, preaching, nurturing young believers, teaching disciples, and eventually sending them out.

Finally, as we labor towards the Great Commission, Jesus does not send us alone. But he provides us the assurance that he has authority over all things and will be with us always.
