Unity

[Ephesians 4:1-6] As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

[Abstract] God wants all to know Jesus as the Christ. One way that this goal is achieve is through the demonstrated unity of the Church. Consequently, it is imperative that we live in unity through peace. Paul further explains in verse 2 that the keys to unity are 1) humility, 2) gentleness, 3) patience, and 4) the ability to bear with each other in love.

The basis for unity is demonstrated through the oneness of God. This oneness is both manifested in the unity of Jesus and the Father and the uniqueness of the Christian beliefs (e.g. one faith, one baptism etc.). Nevertheless, we are naturally rebellious in general. But despite our short comings, if we could encounter God and fix our gaze upon Him, we might still hope to live out Paul’s plead to live worthy of our calling.
